Brewster - a Hot Commodity?

How does a guy go from potential hot seat at a lower level B10 school to a possible hire for a low end B12 school for 2x the $$$?

Is this the Twilight Zone? Brew to KAN? Can this possibly be true?

Here's what I've heard/read/believe:

1. Brew wants an extension - he isn't going to get one until he proves something.
2. Brew and Maturi really aren't buds. If you've seen Joel's comments you can figure that out real fast.
3. Brew had Mack Brown call KU and recommend him as a potential coach.

What does this all mean? My guess is that the interest is minimal at best...mainly stemming from the phone call from Mack. Brew would gladly pack up and leave considering he'd get more $, be in a much easier conference (B12 North is winnable every year...B10 is not), and be in his beloved B12 where he could be closer to his idol Mack Brown at TEX.

I'm thinking Brew had Mack make a call to try and stir up a rumor like this to try and make it seem like people like him and want him, which frankly can't be true considering his average at best track record thus far at MN. I don't think he counted on this getting as public as it has and it seems to have pissed off Mr. Boring Joel Maturi. I think this might just push Joel over the edge and force him to end an already strained relationship with his Used Car Salesman of a coach and go on the hunt sooner than expected.

Would it be the right move to fire him? Maybe. Very tough call right now, but his recruiting, which is really the only strong point through 3 years, is starting to fade. He can't sell hope like he could before actual games were played and lost. He can't sell playing time like he once could, and he hasn't won which we all know is the best recruiting tool of them all. If there is any validity to the rumor...awesome. We could solve 2 problems at once. The question of the buy-out wuld be gone and we'd have him out a year early and be that much closer to rebuilding with hopefully a coach that can, well, coach.

The real problem is Maturi. How did you hire this guy in the first place? Joel admittedly had never heard of him and knew nothing about him before the initial interview off the recommendation from the infamous "search firm". All he does well is recruit and sell hope, but after 3 lack-luster years this fan base is done buying. He has no specialty (Offense, Defense, SpT) and doesn't seem to manage a game very well at all. I just don't know how you can go into a search for a guy to lead your team into a new stadium and you don't have a long list of potential candidates that would be heads and tails better than this guy. Lane Kiffin is a jerk, but he can coach and he wanted to be here. I understand the budget issues, but that was Joel's fault too by buying out Mason one year after a big extension. So Joel was forced to take a chance, it doesn't look like it's going to work out, but I really don't think I can trust him to hire our next leader.

Perfect world - Brew goes to KU, Maturi gets canned, new guy hires somebody who can truly lead the Gopher Nation to some place special.

Should be an interesting month - we'll know what the plan is by then...probably sooner.
