Buckeye beatdown...positivity?

Ugly, yes...but not nearly as bad as the 38-7 looks.

1. We scored! Hoo-ray!! And it wasn't AWEB leding the TD drive, shocking. Granted it was a weak 2nd team D, but how do you not turn over the keys to the car from now on to #5. He had to have at least 80% of our total offense today!

2. We played well early. Until the shit-storm in Q3 we were right in this thing. Defense was prepared and played well early, but the difference is they scored points which we clearly are unable to do. This one was there for the taking if the WR's show up and catch some balls and AWEB converts on a couple of poor 3rd down throws...but once we got behind it looked like they all gave up.

3. WR's WTF? How many balls do you have to drop to prove your point about wanting a new QB?!?! It was ridiculous today. Were they just deer in the headlights or what the hell could the excuse possibly be for that many bad drops in one day.

4. Playcalling was solid. I think we found some things that were really working early on, every drive just ended with a pathetic drop or bad pass...imagine that.

5. #5 looked incredible. He made the defense fear the running game, which opens up the passing game, which leads to points for the good guys. (wow, I just saw that NEB lost in Lincoln to the Clones...holy shit, Pelini might get fired on the spot!)

6. No ED = No Gopher Offense. When AWEB is under center this is the story and has been for 2+ years. The spread can hide average QB's by giving them easy looks all over the field on every play. But under center in the pro-form we just aren't able to hide a deficient QB anymore. Especially when he has a man-crush on ED. It's like we just don't have a clue once ED is out, which seems to happen a lot.

7. Brew and staff, in my opinion, had a good plan coming in and the team simply just didn't execute. Message boards are blwoing up with fire Brewster - really? Get over it. The only logical option at this point is to let it run the course and give himmat least 1-2 more full seasons. We lost 2 games we were supposed to lose, granted that they were ugly loses, but we're 4-4 with 4 to play, 3 at home, and 1 against a bunch of homos from the south. 8-4.

Where do we go from here? Well, like I said, #5 has to see at least a legit split with AWEB in the reamining games. The threat of him running the ball is just too much for this team to not use at this point in our offensive ineptitude. It can't be any worse...we went for 2 full games without scoring A POINT with AWEB, so let's see what the guy who can't read defenses can do. With a player like this you can literally figure out 10-15 plays that he runs really well and use them in the game. 30% of your offensive plays should be the shotgun option where Gray decides to keep it or give it to Whaley (no other backs are worth a shit). Defensively we still aren't horrible. Some of the numbers are ugly, but when you are literally on the field for 3 quarters a week it's going to be bad. Time for Timmy B to do a little soul searching and figure out what he can do to win at least 3 of the last 4 and keep the critics off his back and get this team moving forward again.

Hope nobody is jumping ship - we lost to PSU and OSU on the road, just like everyone expected. It sucks, but with 4 winnable games left I think this can still be a really positive season...especially with #5 running the show and getting the B10 ready for the Gray Show in 2010!
