Week 6 Wrap Up

JG is champion of the world for this week at 9-6 overall, everyone else finished at
8-7...not bad, collectively we were +6 for the week.

Overall records are as follows:
MR: 52-38 (58%)
JG: 48-42 (53%)
MK: 44-46 (49%)
JR: 41-49 (46%)

MR is still the NCAA leader at a ridiculous 41-24 (60%), and MK and JG are tied for the NFL lead at 16-9 (60%)...that's all it takes is 60% to do really well at this hobby - let's remember that for this weekend.

NCAA RECAP
The Gophers won an ugly one on Saturday, but it's a B10 win which we'll obviously take any day of the week. Brewster put it best when he said we "leaned on our defense all day long." Yes, these are not the same Minnesota Golden Gophers we've been living and dieing with over the last 10-12 years, we actually do play defense and we can win games with our defense. However, I have some major concerns about the other side of the ball right now.
1) Where has the running game gone? Weber is not a threat at all to run this year, and the stable of backs we have need 40 carries to get to 100 yards. Obviously, this needs to improve to keep winning in the B10.
2) OL Play - scary the last few weeks. Weber has been under pressure, and clearly we can't run if the line doesn't open holes. In all fairness we are very young here (and at RB) but we need to start seeing some of these guys get better as the B10 season gets going.
3) Another WR Option - this might be the biggest thing for this team to figure out if we plan on finishing in the top half of the B10 - Decker is all world, and continues to be even with all the attention he's getting. But how open and how productive can these other guys be when he's getting all the attention. Some of the Freshman need to start rolling and Spry needs to ride pine for the next 3 years - worthless.

So, obviously very happy with a win, but scared about the upcoming game with the Illini. They will scroe some points on us, but we need to have a much more productive offense to compete on the road.

BAD PICKS
JR - Memphis, how the f*ck did I talk myself into this one. I knew it was a bad pick when I made it.
MR - USF, ouch. Pitt housed them as a 2TD dog. Maybe the Thursday logic will be to always just pick the Dog wheather they are Home or Road?
JR - KAN, liked this one a lot...until they were down 20-0 at half! If they show up at all in H1 it's a route.
MK - UNLV - he loved the Rebs on the road, a scary proposition. CSU rolled them pretty good.
MR - Tulane...they were very promising early this year, and the "always bet against Army" logic was a can't miss in the first 4 weeks....these teams are heading in opposite directions now.
MK - MICH, even though MK bleeds Maize and Blue this was not a good pick. Illinois exploited the defense and the offense continued to look helpless.
MK & JG - AUB - never bet against the smart kids. They are rolling this year and continue to somehow keep it close and beat some solid SEC teams despite having the 12th ranked offense and defense in the SEC!!
MK & JG - UCONN - these guys suck. I liked them to in this game, but in hindsight I'm trying to figure out why. NC has athletes everywhere, and apparently don't need their starting QB to crush people.
JR - TN - maybe the worst pick of the week, TN almost loses to NILL at home. My question, as bizarre as it sounds, is what's the line on TN vs. GOPHERS neautral field...MN -3?!?

Enough misery, let look at the great picks of the week:
MK had a couple nice ones with OREST and NCST both losing and covering.
MR pulled a super dark horse out by hitting RUT to cover at WV...wow, that's impressive.
JR, MK, JG - GOPHERS! Rah! it wasn't pretty, but Indiana is f-ing B-R-U-T-A-L...they shouldn't win a B10 game.
JR - Gators -22 at ARK...come on guys, coming off a loss, ARK is terrible = easy $
MR - OK - 27 at BAY...Bears are improved, but OK is #1 for a reason.
JG - SC, in bascially a pick 'em, nice call on this one...Cocks aren't bad.
TT - did the whole world not see this one coming, how bad is KST...well, they are only a FG favorite at A&M this week.
MR and JG - ILLINI - nice work seeing through the MICH mirage. This ILLINI club is for real I think.
JR - ULL -1.5 at ULM, does anybody know what these stand for? ULL plays people tight, ULM gets blown away...easy $ once again.
JR - ARIZONA, in the revenge game for VEGAS 07, I loved the Cats and they didn't disappoint.
MR - Saturday night Trifecta: USC, OHIOST, MIZZOU - nailed all 3. Let's save some great runs like this for next week and make it worth something besides pride!

Was anyone else really sad to see Becky fall to 0-2 in the B10. Season over?...yes....getting housed by PSU next week?...yes...TREE making huge dollars on that game....yes.

NFL PICKS
12-8 overall in the NFL this week after the SHOCKER OF ALL SHOCKERS last night. almost a 15-5 week if the Aints would have stopped getting turnovers. Seriously, has a team ever deserved to win a game less than the purple last night. Offense might be starting to get it by throwing the ball down the field, defense looked much better in H2...a layup coming next week with DET to get to .500...who knows, the season may be salvageable.

BAD PICKS OF THE WEEK
MR gets nominated 2 times for this one...SEA narrowly missed the 6 point cover at NYG by losing 44-6, and the Lions nearly covered the 7 at home against CHI 34-7. Wow, 2 really bad teams getting totally crushed.JR comes in a close 2nd for picking the BILLS -1.5 at AZ, but they lost 41-17. Edwards only lasted 3 plays, and we all know Losman and the Bills would have been a 7 pt. dog at AZ.

GREAT PICKS
MK - CAR over KC, why did we all not jump on this. KC is bad people, this was easy $.
MR - AZ over BUF, nice. AZ is solid at home, I've been opposite on them all season, so why would it change now. Nice call. Cards win if Warner turns it over less than 7 times.

All right guys - it's one for next week. I will give you each a call sometime tonight to clarify our plans, but I think we're all set. Also my dad's brother Terry will be out there on Thursday night and staying at Harrah's across the street. So preapre to be surrounded by the great knowledge of 3 Rollins'...can you handle that?!? FYI My dad rocked a 12-3-1 week on his picks this week, so he's riding a little hot streak coming into the big weekend. I gave him both of your phone numbers, so he may call you to figure things out for FRI morning as well. His cell is : 507-273-8660.

We'll be in touch.
